Ovulation happens about 36 hours after the LH surge has begun. The egg is released into the peritoneal cavity, surrounded by a few granulosa cells, and usually finds its way down the fallopian tube. The rest of the cells from the follicle remain in the ovary and become a new structure, the corpus luteum. These cells will secrete a hormone designed to prepare the woman's body for pregnancy. |
