When you give a blood transfusion, you have to worry about how the recipient's body will treat the cells from the donor. Antibodies from the donor are not usually a problem, because they are just protein molecules and will wear out quickly. To tell whether a transfusion will work, compare the donor's cell surface antigens to the antibodies in the recipient's plasma.
