Instead of having to deal with a graph 1,000,000 units high, you can just graph the logarithm of the number of bacteria and make a nice little graph.
Let's review the rules about logarithms. The logarithm of a number is the power to which 10 is raised to get that number. So what would be the logarithm of 1,000,000,000? First, convert it into scientific notation: 109 Now it's simple; the exponent, 9, is the logarithm of the number.
