A man had problems with bruising and bleeding, and when he was tested his platelet counts were found to be very low. HisTPO levels, however, were slightly higher than normal.

This makes sense, because when there are fewer platelets then they trap less of the TPO. That should cause more TPO to reach the bone marrow and stimulate platelet formation.

But it apparently wasn't working in this man, because he wasn't producing more platelets. The doctor decided he needed a platelet transfusion.
